27 May 2006  Merkurs at Carlisle 2006  flash news report.  Arch rivals, Snoopy and the Red Baron, have agreed to set aside their differences for the duration of Carlisle 2006.  Snoopy will attend the event as well. However, Snoopy's trusty Sopwith Camel is undergoing a major overhaul so in the spirit of good sportsmanship the Baron has agreed to have Snoopy as his copilot for the trip. Here is Snoopy in the cockpit of the Baron's red Fokker Tri-plane getting checked out for the upcoming flight

22 May 2006
As previously announced, we have arranged for a special guest appearance at this year's banquet, a former Product Manager directly involved with the Merkur program, known to most as The Red Baron.  Well, we thought it was high time to start revealing his actual identity, so we provide this picture of "Red" getting into his red Fokker Tri-plane, completing the pre-flight checklist prior to his trip into Carlisle.  The only question is, where's Snoopy!?

Speaking of questions, Red's "speech" at the Carlisle banquet will primarily be a Q&A session regarding Merkurs and the Merkur program in general.  Some of the questions include:

1) What would the 1990 Merkur XR4Ti have looked like?
2) What was the third model that was going to be added to the Merkur line-up?
3) What engines were considered besides the 2.3 Turbo?  Was the Cosworth motor considered?
4) What really happened to the 1990 Scorpios that I heard were imported?

Want to find out the answers to the questions above or ask your question in-person?  You'll need to be at the dinner banquet at the Hotel Carlisle Saturday night.  Tickets will NOT be sold at the door and must be pre-purchased.  The cut-off date is May 26th, so the time to act is NOW!  The on-line order form is just a click away.

6 February 2006 The Merkur Club of America would like to congratulate Valerie Delligatti on being our 200th member.
Valerie writes:  My Merkur XR4ti was my first car.  It was given to me by my uncle so I could get my drivers license.  At first it was just a car.  Then after I had owned the XR4ti for a year, I came to better appreciate the car and did more research on it. It then transformed into MY car, and I was hooked.  I wanted to modify it badly.  The exhaust was falling off and the automatic transmission did not fully satisfy my desires for a car that was quick and enjoyable to drive.  In my search for parts to mod it, I met Jeff Herson of Merkur Parts Midwest.  He has everything a Merkur owner would ever need.  Through him I met Jim Wichert, who is the Midwest's ace Merkur mechanic. With their help I got new 3" exhaust and did a T5 transmission swap.  They are two great guys that helped keep my car running and my obsession going.  In fact, I love Merkurs so much, I bought a second one recently.  It feels great to be part of the MCA and I look forward to meeting many fellow Merkur owners at Carlisle 2006.

Once again, congratulations Valerie, and we look forward to meeting you at Carlisle 2006, June 2-4th.

30 December 2005. Member Peter Cipolla recently had the opportunity to visit the Roush Racing museum in Livonia, MI.  This museum is only open to the public on a limited basis, so the pictures posted here provide a rare glimpse into Merkur racing history.  Thank you Peter for providing these.

Click here for further details of Peter's trip and a Racing History of these fast fords.

For those of you that do not know, Peter owns another piece of Merkur racing history - a 1985 IMSA-IS XR4Ti Race Car.

8 June 2005.  It's official!  The big Carlisle 20th anniversary celebration is over and we assembled the largest collection of Merkurs and their owners ever!  236 was the official count.  Thanks to everyone that made this possible.  The time, effort and money involved was breath-taking.  Row after row of XR4Ti and Scorpios exceeded the allotted show-field space and spilled over into an adjacent area!  Continue celebrating the 20th anniversary at other events planned throughout the year and be proud of your Merkur's heritage.

Thanks to all the vendors that donated first class Merkur products for the Awards Dinner, but especially our Gold sponsors BAT, Hartwood Automotive, Meguiars, OPMD and Rapido for the first class awards dinner donations and congratulations must go out to Jason Liss who won the Carlisle Events 1986 car give-away and Morgan who won the Hartwood Automotive/MCA give-away car.
