Saul Rivkin

Introduction

Saul has been an automotive enthusiast for many years, something that runs deep in his family history. His Father happened to own one of the first 1983 1/2 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupes.  Modified with an intercooler and adjustable boost, it proved to be quite a solid performer. Saul's first introduction to the Merkur line came shortly after it's introduction to the US market. It was the full-color ads in automotive magazines and all the free literature and videos sent by FLM that got him hooked on the distinctive styling and the creature comforts of Merkurs.

Years later, in 1992, when his wife wanted a German touring car, he said Merkur Scorpio! The couple found a used car dealer in Lancaster PA that had 8 on the lot. After test driving a 42K mile pristine car, they were hooked and took it home one week later. Saul has been active  since 1996, on the IMON list helping others, and has a deep passion for his Scorpio, as well as other Merkurs. During the past few Carlisle gatherings he has volunteered to be on the judging committee and assist in other areas.

His Scorpio is only mildly modified with a European headlamp conversion, side marker lamp kit, Borla exhaust system and 16" wheels and tires. The car is still used for commuting to work on nice weather days, but is mostly driven as a pleasure car and to shows. It currently has 84,000 miles, showing only minimal wear.

Saul works for Commonwealth Bank in West Chester, PA as a Supermarket Bank Manager. He is married with three daughters, ranging from newborn to 5 years old. Other accomplishments include operating the now defunct Sportech Enterprises. Sportech was involved in modifying Mustang 5.0’s and performing many Ranger V8 conversions, including his personal 1986 Supercab Ranger show truck. He even fitted a 2.3 EFI Intercooled/ Turbo engine into a 1986 Ranger, pictured here with SVO wheels. Saul is also a member of the Ford Galaxie Club of America and owns 3 1970 XL convertibles.
