The big 20th anniversary event is over and the MCA would like to thank everyone that helped make it a success. Thanks go out especially to those that drove the long distances, put up with mechanical gremlins and made it from as far afield as California, Texas, Florida and Nevada.
The weather finally cooperated and we had a spectacular weekend with 236 Merkurs on the showfield - making this this biggest gathering of Merkurs an their owners ever and earned us a solid first place in the club awards.
48,983 people visited the All
Ford Nationals this year to see the 2,605 cars on display and 1,215
vendors. Around 10% of all the cars on the showfield were Merkurs!
A quarter of those arrived in one convoy on Friday! It was hard
for any of the attendees to miss the presence of the Merkur marque, with
a red '85 appearing for the first time on the Carlisle Events official
logo.
Did we get the name out there? You bet we did, and we had a blast
doing it!

The stories started thousands of
miles away from Carlisle and Merkur camaraderie abounded.
The broken caliper bolts, the blown hoses, truckers believing
only they could have convoys, the long days and nights spent
preparing the cars for the trip, and finally the arrival at the
hotel. The management listened to our criticism from last
year and we were met with spotlights that made the night seem
like day and we had parking lot story-telling and in-depth
technical discussions lasting well into the morning hours. After Carlisle Events announced the winner of the 1986 XR4Ti at 3pm, it was time to hit the road and around 14 of us continued their celebration at Watkins Glen, NY for another two days. Five days of Merkurdom to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Merkur introduction into the United States. Five days of meeting old friends, making new ones and testing the limits of the cars on the road and on the track. If you missed it, you missed a phenomenal event. One unlikely to be repeated in a long time. Enjoy the pictures here and tell us your stories so that I can update the site with the details to capture the full extent of the celebration. |

I don't want to start a whole host of work for us all, but within reason I will try to honor any requests for high-resolution digital files of any pictures, suitable for printing up to 8"x10". |
